ArchitekTOUR Berlin 2017

Station Berlin, Luckenwalder Straße 4–6, Berlin,

Vaults, grottoes, arches and polychromy lecture, part of the Heinze ArchitekTOUR congress held at Station Berlin

Congress

More than 600 visitors responded to the joint invitation of Heinze GmbH and its 51 partners to the monumental halls of STATION-Berlin, whose urban and industrial atmosphere provided the ideal setting for the closing congress of the ArchitekTOUR 2017 series. The two-day programme alternated lectures by established architects and emerging voices with presentations of materials and technologies by 43 manufacturers. Among the contributions, Antonino Cardillo opened the second day with a reflection on perception and the polysemy of built space, followed by talks by Thomas Willemeit, Mark Jenewein and Meinhard von Gerkan. The congress concluded with an intergenerational roundtable moderated by David Kasparek, editor of the journal der architekt.

Long ago, I read in Martin Heidegger’s Letter on Humanism the following phrase: ‘In thinking, the Being reaches language. Language is the house of Being. In its home man dwells. Those who think and those who create with words are the guardians of this home’. This phrase was referring to the architectural topics of ‘living’, ‘house’ and ‘language’. According to Heidegger, language thus seemed to be a research into the origin of meaning of words.
