Festival

For three days, from 10 to 12 May, in the Cinecittà Studios that made Italian cinema famous throughout the world, RomeVideoGameLab 2019 is the festival-laboratory devoted to discovering all that is new in videogames and their potential when joined to the worlds of cultural heritage, knowledge, training and teaching: what are called applied games. After the great success of its first edition, this year RVGL grows further in spaces and activities, offering an occasion for young people, families, enthusiasts and professionals to play, to learn, to increase their professionalism and skill, but also simply to enjoy themselves, to be together and to encounter new ideas, worlds and people.

The three days will offer a thousand occasions, beginning with the many discussion panels and continuing with workshops, masterclasses, meetings with international guests and lectio magistralis by celebrated videogame creators. And also exhibitions on art and videogames, tournaments between parents and children with the games that made history, at the many interactive stations of the area devoted to retrogames. […]

Videogiochi e architettura: Al di là di reale e fantastico nella narrazione

Architecture, videogames, animation and virtual and augmented reality are narrative tools that are different from one another, but united by the ability to build realities that are likely or imaginary, to the point of confusing the boundaries between what is real and what is not. The panel will explore the way in which these different artistic fields create, alter and propose their realities.

Participants

  • Domiziana Suprani, Studio Evil producer
  • Owen Hopkins, senior curator of exhibitions, education at Sir John Soane’s Museum
  • Antonino Cardillo, architect
  • Ivan Cappiello, movie director, CGI artist, animator
  • Diego Grammatico, innovation, development policy consultant (moderator)

Let me tell you my story. Twelve years ago I started building a series of ‘’. I wanted to communicate my architecture. Thus, I produced seven houses in virtual reality, sending computer-generated images to the most influential architecture magazines on the planet. From 2007 to 2012, more than one hundred and fifty publications, from Australia to California, reproduced these works. For at least six years, many believed the existence of these houses, coming to define a phenomenon of simulated reality.
